SADDLE PLACEMENT
Let’s talk about SADDLE PLACEMENT
This is so crucial and often gets overlooked…When placing your saddle, first feel for the scapula (it’s the bulge at the top of the shoulder). Make sure to place your saddle behind the scapula, not too far back, just right behind the scapula. After you have the saddle on, you can double check by feeling under the saddle again and making sure that the saddle tree is just behind the scapula bone. This allows proper movement for the horse when under saddle. If your saddle is sitting on top the scapula, your horse will not be able to properly stop, turn, back or ride off comfortably. Some horses may even, buck, kick or rear from the pain of the saddle and bone clashing.
Go ahead, give it a try and watch your horse’s movement and riding improve!
